Growing up in Country
New South Wales, being creative and feeling connected to the earth
became part of who I am. I have been involved in some form of
creative endeavour my entire life. Creative skills outside the fine
art domain include, textile art, fashion design, knitting, crotchet,
interior design, house design and landscaping.
It wasn't until I
turned 30 and my children were young, that I considered Fine Art as
more than just something I did.
I started a private
art class with a wonderful mentor Ken Raffe. When I first joined
the Thursday art group it was purely to get some interaction with
people of similar interest and to learn more about composition and
refinement of my technique. It turned out to be a real privilege
to work alongside so many talented people. Ken a master artist in
his own right is singularly responsible for my taking up sculpture,
(if anything I considered myself a painter) he just kept nagging me
to give it a go and from my first piece I was hooked, though I still
draw all the time and paint when the mood strikes at present
sculpture is my passion.
I can appreciate
all forms of art, but I do have my favourites artists and those that
influence me. Among them Joseph Wright of Derby, Albrecht Durer,
Salvador Dali, Rembrandt, Norman Lindsay, Michelangelo, Vincent Van
Gogh, Dave McGary, Bev Doolittle.
The creation of a
work of art for me involves that altered state of consciousness that
excludes everything else. The Elements Series and Black Madonna
are currently being cast. I am working on a series of family
portraits. I am available for pastel portrait and sculpture
commissions. The future goal is to produce a larger version of
Black Madonna.
Life is such a
learning curve. Self education never stops. A bit of a gypsy, at
present I live on Macleay Island in Queensland.
